Who Dey?

question-mark1

The Georgia Bulldogs game against Florida was a confusing game to watch. When the game began, they looked like a different team. That’s not because of the way they played, it was the black pants and black helmets. Think about a love child between a Red Raider and a Bearcat.

Then put it up for adoption.

Rex, the eye gouge by Gator 51 got me thinking…What would be the penalty for a member of society who deliberately attempted to do serious and irreparable harm to another person? I know this is a stretch and don’t believe incidents on the football field should be punishiable by law. But, the actions by Gator 51 were malicious, intentional and caught on camera. Sometimes, things get heated and players can become over-aggressive (ie late hits). Those mistakes can be forgiven.

But…There is no doubt, that the WWE-esque antics of Gator 51 could have forever changed not just the career, but the life of WaShaun Ealey in an unfortunate manner.

So, I discussed this issue with my uncle, who graduated from the UGA law school in the late 70′s. He said, “The incident took place in foreign jurisdiction (CFB Game in Florida), but if someone was attempting to do serious injury to one’s eyes, that could be attempted aggrevated battery. Aggrevated battery can carry a penalty of 20 years incarceration and an attempt at that could be punished for half of that.”

He also responded, “With the video eliminating any question that the FL player clearly intended to hurt the GA player’s eyes, why has the FL player not been banished from the NCAA for life? If I were a coach and one of my players did that, I would personally escort the s-o-b off the field and tell him not to return.”

Neither of us want to see athletes prosecuted for their actions on the football field. But, why doesn’t the SEC have a severe and immediate penalty for intentional acts of malice?

If I were Richt, I would make our team wear all black…black helmets, pants and shirts, not to get us pumped up but to let the players know that you EARN the right to wear Silver and Red!!! We will wear non-traditional UGA colors until we earn the right to wear our standard. In fact, I wouldn’t wear the standard colors until we can come out and beat Fla. Have some pride!

All this changing uniforms and helmets is something you might do if you’re trying to motivate a 9-10 year old Rec. team, not a major college program.

Oh well, at least we didn’t disgrace our traditional uniform by wearing them to this debacle.

Well Rex my Bro-In-Law (Tech grad) is calling me now. He has been fairly quiet for so long I really don’t know how to respond…. those family Thanksgiving Dinners were a thing to look forward to. Plenty of turkey and ham and homemade ice cream and pies galore. Then the game and touch foot ball in the yard. Heys theres a thought….. I may just have to go Brando Spikes on him and……..no thats not gonna work. I’d be in some serious trouble!
When Vicks kid brother kicked the player in the head ….what happened to him. Spikes should be made to sit! Better yet- suspend him. That is far to dangerous a thing to ignore.

  5. Sorry to those who liked them but I don’t ever want to see the Black helmets or black pants again. Yeech! That was a classless play by Spikes. If he continues that style of play, the reprimand will come on the field.

I liked the black helmets for a change it made it easier to tell the difference between the red and orange helmets. I guess my eyes are getting old. What did you think of Brandon Spikes going after the eyes of a GA player? Do you think he will be penalized?

I thought that was downright inexcusable behavior. I bet any reprimand will be minor in nature. I will be shocked if it’s more than that.

Well you were right Urban only benched him for one half of the Vandy game. The NCAA is going to review it later. I wonder if they will increase the penalty. Urban’s defense of Spikes was it was in retaliation. PLEASE.

  7. Between us looking like giant Oreos and UT looking like candy corn, at least we fit in well on Holloween.
