What’s Red, Black & Green All Over?

I don’t know, but it’s worth $1,000 and a four game suspension apparently. Georgia’s AJ Green has been suspended for three additional games, pending a UGA appeal for selling a game worn jersey to someone technically considered an agent.

The Dawg Nation is beside their collective selves, which is understandable. What I don’t understand is why they consider AJ a victim. He knew the rule and he broke the rule. If you think the rule sucks fine, but don’t place victim status on him.

AJ was and is dead wrong. I have no love for the NCAA, but just as in any real world working relationship, there is the “BOSS” and the “employee”. The NCAA controls the activities and the amateur status of athletes under scholarship at their member institutions.

Unlike other decision makers, the NCAA has chosen to up the ante in order to nip this type of thing in the bud. Four games is harsh, but harsh was what was called for, I guess.

As a Georgia fan, I am convinced that we have plenty of offensive weapons to survive the early slate of games. Our defense is the question and many of those questions have already been answered in a near shut out of Louisiana Lafayette.

The Dawgs will survive this nightmare. I believe it to my core.

I hope Coach Richt took the time after the game to heartily apologize to his team and especially his young quarterback for letting them all down Saturday. If he is letting Bobo make the offensive play calls then he should ask him to also apologize to the team. College games have such a quick pace that the opportunities for taking control of a game are fleeting. Squandering your chances in the heat of the moment will almost always lead to defeat. I thought the team looked fit and ready to play and actually played very well most of the day. (The fumble at the 5 yard line notwithstanding.) The reason I feel an apology is necessary are because of what turned out to be the two most crucial series of the game. Both 3 and outs. The first looked as if it had been called by a riverboat gambler. The long bomb down the sidelines to a slow and well covered receiver followed by an ill advised attempt at a screen followed by another poorly designed pass play. The second series was an ultra-conservative (Dooleyish) series, consisting of 3 consecutive running plays that gained a yard. What gives? I think Aaron Murray can be as good as the play calling behind him. Breaking his confidence by making dolt calls will be very detrimental in the long run. The best team did not win that game yesterday, the best coaching staff did! The thing that makes some coaches look like geniuses is that they evaluate the talent they have and design their systems to take advantage of those talents. Not by trying to force someone into their system.

Agree with Rex. Rules is rules. If we don’t like them…..and I DON’T then we should find a way to change them.

The schools are making millions, dare say collectively billions on the backs of kids who get (sometimes) scholarships. The schools are taking advantage of these young athletes. If a parent did that it might be called child abuse. OK I’m stretching it but I am really ticked off about the balance of a value between players and schools. Just My2Cents.

I don’t think we know the full story here…..maybe we will never know but I’ve heard AJ is basically a good kid so like you I hope he serves whatever suspension is finally decided and comes back humble and hungry. The Defense and O-Line MUST step up……turnovers will decide this one. But isn’t that always the case in Columbia.

Hope you’re right, Rex. It’ll still come down to the defense in the end…or maybe clutch field goal with a few ticks of the clock. If this happens, I like our chances.

Tough news. But, like you, I think we can survive without him. I hope he comes back with humbleness & humility and finishes strong.

Listen. Correct me if I’m wrong, but I’ve been told the money he earned went to charity? That he donated it all? Which from what I know of AJ Green sounds reasonable. I don’t understand why he’s getting more suspension than the Alabama player who flat out accepted nearly $2,000. I feel like it might be that I don’t know all the facts, but who does other than Coach Richt?

I have heard nothing like that. No reason for money to change hands at all. If it’s for charity, just sign it. I, along with many other guys have done it a thousand times.
