Top SEC Destinations Away from Home

I saw it being discussed on The Vent yesterday. Someone had come out with a list of top stadiums in the SEC. Everyone loves the home cooking but when you do travel, where do you enjoy going most. Is it really the stadium? Is it the people? Is it the food? Let us know what SEC destinations you prefer.
This not a bashfest…just point out where you do enjoy traveling and watching football in the best conference in America. Leave a comment and vote to your right. Let your voice be heard! This is your chance to be heard by several people at least! Thanks

Not even close, I have had more fun down at LSU, than all the other stadiums in the SEC. We have a group of guys that make one road trip a year with a goal to visit them all. We only lack USC and I really could care less about going to a game their, because I know the area and have spent time in Columbia. We are taking the Arkansas trip this year, which I am looking forward to. The people and the food make the LSU trip special. We have never been treated better anywhere in the SEC and you can not beat all that Cajun food they love to share when tailgaiting. Oxford is fun, but the game is always anti-climatic. Alabama is arrogant, TN is a bunch of ignorant Rednecks and KY and Vandy fans really don’t expect to win. MSU is like stepping back in time 40 years ( and not in a good way). Did not make it to the Swamp in the 90′s, I can only imagine 90K people in jorts. Auburn is so-so. I have been to other games outside the SEC and nothing comes close overall.

Rex, I think it’s about going to different places that one has never been. My wife and I are trying to go to all the SEC venues just to see how each place is different while at the same time supporting the Dawgs and being with other Dawg Fans. Although we are season ticket holders, getting tickets can still be a problem.
Never been to LSU and others but I hear I should take my weapon when visiting the Tigers at their stadium.

I live in Augusta so I have been to the USC(east) game in Columbia about ten times. I have had mostly good experiences. Well most of the time we won. I got to see David Pollack grab that interception for a touchdown. The roar of the UGA fans attending made it feel like we were in Sanford Stadium. Most tailgating with their fans has been enjoyable. We took a rubber chicken with us to the game one year. We named the featherless bird Plucky. If you squeezed Plucky he would let out a shriek and his eyes would bug out. People were falling on the ground laughing, Dawgs and Gamecocks alike. One less than amused Gamecock said we could not take that chicken into the stadium. We hollered back, Plucky’s got a seat. We had one ticket left over that we basically gave away walking in. We won and Plucky had a great ole time.

Tru dat Alan on the Grove, Super Impressive. We (four married or almost married guys) rode in a van with 20+ coeds in sundresses. The ride only lasted from the parking lot to the stadium, but it was one to remember.
Later as we were waiting in line for an un-ocupado port-o-let empty handed, an Ole Miss fan offered us a cold beer. Southern hospitality at its finest.
The stadium isn’t Sanford or Death Valley big, but is very nice I thought. Clean and a lot easier to get in and out of than Starkville. But tailgating in the Grove is what stands out from that great trip!

There is nothing better than a trip to J-Ville, GA. (I know the geography) Even though I don’t consider this as an opponents field it certain is a great destination.
I grew up in Athens and could not wait to be old enough to go down there. Now I take my kids some so they don’t have to wait.
Until the Evil Genius came to FLA, we owned the Gator Bowl. It was a thrilling trip and helped the total UGA program gain national recognition.
Even though I am so tired of getting beat down there. I would never want to lose going there.
Also, the GA Dome would be a horrible destination.
The Grove and Bama are great. Knoxville is fun but the stadium is horrible.

I voted for LSU due to their fans and the atmosphere they create, although getting back to NOLA after the 98 game no fun at all. Tuscaloosa, much better than B’ham. Fayetville is a pretty cool trip. I disqualified west opelika due to the hoses and the planting of the thorns. Knoxville needs to get a grip, you can’t win’em all. Columbia, ever though of cutting the grass around those wharehouses? Lexington, too cold, wet, or both for my taste. Oxford, the grove is nice, V-H not so much. Starkville, my liver cannot handle all the aspirin required to put up with those cow bells. Vandy, please. gainesville, I prefer Alltel.

Outside of heading to Athens, I always enjoyed the trip to The Grove. It seemed like a home away from home. The fans were always nice, could have been that they were not a good team when I went, the food was always good (we borrowed from other tailgaters), and the after parties were fabulous in the frat/sorority row area.
My next stop would be LSU and Tiger Stadium. Only for the fan base. I can remember marching into the stadium and the fans poured out to watch us come in. It was quite a thrill.
Lastly, I can’t leave out the places I would rather not go. I could do without ever going to Columbia ( nothing like a party at the fairgrounds, not), Clemson and Aurburn (always thought we were in a cow pasture, then again we were) and finally, Neyland Stadium. Something about the whole place just bugged me. The fans seemed rude and the way they acted towards other fans was just not in the spirt of the game.
Of note, since I was in the Redcoats, I got to see many of the Stadiums in the SEC and others. Also I did not include the WLOCP only because it was “neutral”. But the gator fans were the worst that I have ever come across and I’m sure going to the Swamp would not be a very enjoyable experience.
