The War of Southern Derision

The Georgia Bulldogs lost in remarkably stunning fashion Saturday night and that’s all I have to say on that subject. The glaringly obvious. No keen insight here. I don’t want to dwell on it one more second, because we can’t afford to. There is only one chance to make this season of regret, a season to remember. That my friends would come true with an upset of the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets.
What used to be inept, is now adept. What used to be a punchline, will now punch you in the face. If we are to have a chance to leave Atlanta victorious, it will take an epic performance on defense. Will it happen? No Rextradamus here. Can it happen? Absolutely. That’s why they call them upsets.
What a perfect spot to resurrect a season, a team and even a program in flux. Atlanta was burned in “The War of Northern Aggression”.
Let’s “burn” it again in THE WAR OF SOUTHERN DERISION.

Here’s an example for your consideration Dawg fan.

For everyone at the Auburn game, it was nauseating seeing all the Dawgs in the NFL. Top 5 recruiting class year after year. More talent than anyone in the SEC with exception of Fla and Bama. Last season more talent than anybody. But… most undisciplined team in NCAA.more block in the backs and late hits than I can stand. 10 penalties against Tennessee Tech and 5 were false starts. Constantly in wrong defensive alignment and Bobo has gotten so predictable my wife can call the play. 30 years ago a Dawg hit somebody 5 yards out of bounds and his ass would be on the bench and would be told to be at Sanford at 5 a.m. for the worst day of his life. Richt doesn’t even take the idiot out. No Georgia team should ever lose if they score 42 points. Ever. Joe Cox is either mentally challenged or blind. Horrible leader. Ealey is a class act and I really like him. Everybody in the stadium knew he was expecting hand off. Cox simply has to tell everyone in the huddle what they’re to do. Still position by position, we have more talent than Tech and if we don’t get too coached down we will win. Martinez and Bobo have got to go. Damon Evans should spend more time on hiring and firing and less time making tailgating more difficult every year. Unfortunately, we have been winning big recent years due to our huge amount of talent in spite of the coaches not because of them. I call on every season ticket holder to contact Damon and tell him you are giving the bare minimum to keep your tickets and not a penny more. Would really like to see giving drop from $26 million to $18 million/ out

Coaching issues and gimmick uniform/rules stuff aside, seems to me that if the players thought of themselves as a TEAM rather than potential pro draft picks and….instead of celebrating individual accomplishments such as actually making a tackle (which is what the defense is SUPPOSED to do, right?) and focus on their job responsibilities, then all of that marvelous, so far WASTED TALENT on the field would be a whole lot more Dawg than Tech could possibly handle on a good day…These young Dawgs need leadership…they don’t need a head Coach to pat them on the head and say “it’s ok”…hey need Erk to headbutt them a time or two. They don’t need someone to stage jumping up and down and scream in the middle of a huddle. Nope, they need to be told that if they don’t get it done, how they get back to Athens is their business ’cause it won’t be on the TEAM BUS!! Hmmmm?? I wonder what Frank, Buck, Rex, Kevin, Herschel, Terry, Vince & Erk, Eddie, Ronnie, Charlie, Fran, Frankie, Freddie, Matt, and a few of their best friends are doing this weekend?

We will need a lot of luck on this one! Let me remember? Last year our most talented team, poorly coached, playing in Athens , LOST. This year our WORST team, still poorly coached, plays in ATLANTA, against a master minded coach, wow, I’ll have to flip my two sided coin and decide the winner? I do know that if we go to the TOILET BOWL in Shreveport with SIX LOSES , that will be a total disgrace, unworthy of a bowl game, an IF we were to lose that bowl game with those SIX Loses, making it SEVEN LOSES , our SEC brethren, will kick our teeth in on the RECRUITING TRAIL, and guess what then , IF we have the same coaching staff in place. Maybe a miracle would be in order here, I’m sure God really doesn’t really care about football. And just think in the whole scheme of life, if we lose it all, and do the same next year, twenty years from now it won’t really matter. This too shall pass!

Frankly, I don’t see a UGA win on Saturday and can’t understand why we are only 7 point underdogs. I expect we’ll get behind by two or three scores early, maybe pull within one score by the half just to get my (and your) hopes up, then collapse completely in the third and fourth quarters. I hate myself for thinking this way but that’s the state of things at the moment.

That f*k**g cartoon making fun of the death of UGA VII should be plastered all over the locker room of the Georgia players. I remember years ago Clemson was ranked number 1 and was heading into Athens to meet a Georgia team that was not ranked and was surely to be beat bad. A few days before, the Clemson school paper ran a cartoon of a Clemson player running over a Georgia player with his foot on the Georgia player’s neck. That cartoon was put on the locker room door before the team took to the field. At the end of the game, Clemson was sorry that cartoon was ever printed. Forget the record, forget what could have been. Go into Bobby Dodd on Saturday mad dawg mean!

To beat tech would be great. I don’t really think it will impact how I feel about this season and this team. I already know we have talent. I already know that the coaching staff has let them down. I already know that this team is no different after game 11 than after game 1 except that they have a lot less hope and optimism. I already know that this team is inexplicably inconsisitent.
What I don’t know is if the coaches have an answer? If they did one would think things would have changed somewhat.

I have hope…. but it is slowly fading. I think we were making progress and then what ever that was this last weekend happened.
I thought the Auburn game and then the first half of Kentucky led to hope of righting the ship. I just hope our young pups now have enough inside them to keep it together…… tall order.
Rex I have been following you since your days at Marietta High. We need some of your tenacity and love for the game on the team. Mahalo for your post and God bless! Go DAWGS!

It would be so easy to beat GT. We learned last year it is called the TRIPLE OPTION not the DOUBLE OPTION. Guarding aginst the double option will get you beat. Tackle all 3 everytime.DUH!!! They have no passing game which is good because we have no pass defense.
It would make for a wonder silver lining to a very cloudy year to beat those guys.

We need Baccari Rambo to be healthy for us to have a chance to win.
We need to score points early.
We need decent kickoff coverage, or better yet, kick the ball into the endzone.
We need Willie to be un-willie-like, and Bobo to be un-Bobo-like.
We need no senseless personal fouls from late hits, shoves after the whistle, or mouth running.
We need to be more worried about tackling and playing in position than the style of our jerseys, helmets, mouthguards and shoelaces.
If we don’t do all these things, we’ll have to be content with winning the danceoffs during the commercial breaks.

I for one hold hope for Saturday. That’s about all I have left. My stomach has been removed due to the ulcers caused by CMR’s inability to be a HEAD COACH, my heart stopped 4 times during the season due to Coach Fab’s wonderful choices for positional kicking. And finally my liver burst from too much hooch after watching CMR sleeping on the sidelines while bad calls were made, time on the clock ticked away and he said that “penalties” aren’t that bad.
I do have hope.
Go Dawgs!

Agreed, let’s move on and get this over with already. I hold zero hope for us on Saturday, but you never know. That’s why they play the game. It would be a miraculous victory in the face of such adversity this season. Maybe we can put it together for just one game. Limit penalties, no turnovers, consistent safety play, etc. I have been hoping for it all year. Our offense can score.
