Disarray Oh Disarray

Here we sit on January 9th , 2010 and the football world as we know it is in complete disarray. First Florida’s Urban Meyer goes off what he thought was the deep end and hit his head. Now Pete Carroll is rumored to be leaving the college football mecca that is USC for the NFL.  Both programs have enjoyed tremendous success but both now face an uncertain future. Disarray oh Disarray.

Meyer’s health issues and putting family first was apparently just a 24 hour bug. Now he says he feels in his gut he will be back for the 2010 season. Looney Tunes was always my favorite. Stay tuned for more hilarity.

Pete Carroll has been ultra successful as Trojan Man but ongoing investigations about impropriety going all the way back to Reggie Bush’s apartment and more recently Joe McKnight driving a Land Rover around LA. Nice! Charlie Weis also put a spot-light on the RUMOR that ole Petie had a sweetie on the beach in Malibu. All of this,in addition to a sub-par season and several early defections make the future less than golden in the Golden State.

Former USC RB Lendale White said he was very disappointed in the idea that Carroll would leave after preaching family and loyalty for 10 years. White went on to say that he expected Carroll to be stay at USC like Bobby Bowden did at FSU.  Lendale needs to understand that those days are gone.

Ambition and attrition are the realities of the day.

David Buehler is a Freak

On several occasions I have made reference to the best kick-off guy in the country last year. You know, the guy from USC that had 54% touch-backs. That would be David Buehler, now in camp as a 5th round draft choice of the Dallas Cowboys.  Well, he is a lot more than just a kicker. He is a physical specimen. At 6’2″ 225 lbs., he is a freak as far as kickers go.

I am linking articles calling him “The World’s Strongest Kicker” and “The World’s Fastest Kicker” and they are both incredible. In the first they describe how David did more bench reps(25) with 225 lbs. at the NFL combine than 27 offensive linemen at the combine. SAY WHAT?!? That’s correct, plus he ran a sub 4.6 40 yard dash. Now it comes out he  ”dusted’ one of the Cowboy’s DB’s in a race. Deangelo Smith, another 5th rounder for the Cowboys stepped up to the challenge and  now he wishes he hadn’t.

Are you sufficiently amazed yet. Good. Now. THIS is the guy that kicked more touch-backs,  48 out of 88, than any kicker in the nation. That’s 54.54%……and Coach Richt wants 80%? Child please! That’s a little Ocho Cinco reference for your enjoyment. Here’s a little snippet that’s new to me as well. This came from USC’s website. David’s average kick-off went 67.9 yards.  That’s just outside the 2 yard line. Also, please notice that USC’s opponents only had 8 touchbacks.

David kicked 26-33 field goals in two years as the Trojans kicker also.  Last year he was 9-13.  Only 13 attempts. That’s less than one per game.  USC was busy scoring touchdowns, I guess. He attempted 66 PAT’s….66…..66….last year.

Do you think that between USC’s offense and their outstanding defense, that there was ANY pressure on David to kick his kick-offs deep…or to the left numbers…or with extreme height? No. I can hear Pete Carroll right now, saying David, ” We got your back. You do your thing! Kick-off team, you do your thing! Let’s do this!” Ready break!

Now how hard is that?
