Kicking Duo Could Be Best Ever
Georgia Bulldog fans have had very little to cheer about in 2009. That fact is magnified by the fact that potentially two of the team’s most decorated players could be the kicker and the punter. I think that’s awesome, the rest of you I’m guessing, not so much. That’s understandable. But today, both Blair Walsh and Drew Butler were named as finalists for the Lou Groza and Ray Guy awards, respectively.
This is an amazing thing.
Drew joins Michigan senior Zoltan Mesko and Florida junior Chas Henry in competition to be named the nation’s top punter. UCLA junior Kai Forbath, Alabama senior Leigh Tiffin and Blair are all vying for the distinction of the nation’s top place-kicker.
Good luck guys!

Great going guys! You sure deserve it. You two are bright spots in a dark and cold night.
My dreams? Agents who can convince pro teams of the true value of kickers and get them the moolah they earn!
Sports writers who can appreciate the beauty and art of the kicking game and write about it with the same passion they put into a pass or run.
Television commentators who at least have a clue about the importance of PAT’s and FG’s and mention it before the last 2 seconds of a game.
Hey, I just made my Christmas wish list!!
Go Blair Go Drew:
Go Dawgs.

Best ever……what? You have to be kidding me! How quickly they forget…..How about the real Butler did it, King Rex, Mikey Garrett, Bronco Dilts, Lights on Broadway, Brief Kase, the bigtoe from Cairo, turn the volume down Braswell and those are just a few of the great older guys.
Just having fun Rex….congrats to Blair and Drew. Very proud of them.
But we were better looking and had more fun…..

I was with you til the better looking part…lol.

Ok……but I had to try.

Excellent leg work by these two young men. A point to be proud of in an otherwise dismal season. I wish we could cover as well as they kick.

I hope they both win but pardon me the thought that on Saturday Drew doesn’t have to punt because we score every time we have the ball and Blair doesn’t kick any field goals because we are scoring touchdowns. Down years happen, they’ve happened before and they happen for a variety of reasons but I hope Saturday is an up day for us. GO DAWGS!!!!!!

These guys are good. Without them, we might be a whole lot worse off than we are now. But Rex, why don’t we have a dedicated special teams coach? My high school coach use to say “men, the kicking game will win it or lose if for you every time”. I think he might have been right about that (not too much else, LOL).
And btw, have you tried that website http://www.smartestbulldog.com? There are a zillion questions about your career always posted. It’s pretty cool.

A job well done guys! We do have something to be proud of this year. These guys deserve it, the few shinning lights in a dark cave this year! My congratulations to Coach Rich Brooks, and his staff this past weekend, they really deserved that win! Maybe our bulldogs can learn some positive things about desire to win, can’t help the poor guys with the bad coaching thing though. Good luck against Tech. Maybe you kickers could have a talk with special teams players, if that doesn’t work kick the ball out of bounds every time, or in the end zone. If Tech starts on the 40 yard line every time we are sure to repeat. Remember Tech can go to Orange Bowl, or at worst Chick-fil-A Bowl, with win over our dawgs, so they have a bigger incentive.

Might as well work on Drew’s blocking skills while we are at it!

Now if we could only teach them to tackle too. Seriously though….if we could only teach them to tackle too……jus playin. They are an amazing pair of kickers.
11/23/2009 at 8:28 PM
Hey, believe me I am gonna be on Blair about his tackling skills…or lack thereof. lol.
11/23/2009 at 9:23 PM
After that blocked punt, Drew got his man down…well, by the face mask. But he was down.
In all seriousness, what an honor for these two young kickers. As noted above, I shudder to think of where we’d be without them.
And isn’t it ironic that the two starters without a position coach are the two up for some nat’l awards…??

Ouch…interesting point.

Rex, Shouldn’t be too hard to teach Drew to
tackle. The aggression is there. I thought
he was gonna rip that Kentucky players head
off with the face mask. Just need to focus
on “legal avenues” to accomplish the job.
