If Only…

You might think the title of this blog is in reference to the Georgia Bulldog’s season. I will let others offer their opinions on that. A great deal of that is conjecture. I am going to write about what I know. When the Dawgs rose up and won the “State Championship” Saturday night, they relegated Georgia Tech’s season to just another pretty good season.
It matters not whether they win the ACC Championship and a subsequent BCS Bowl Game, 2009 will be remembered the year they could have had it all and blew it against Georgia. I am not trying to poke fun or mock the Yellow Jackets. I am dead serious. Even at 12-2, the “two” will loom large and the Georgia loss will always be a wound that no salve will heal.
Players and teams alike remember their failures just as much as their successes. If the Yellow Jackets don’t win against Clemson and then win a lesser Bowl, they will have a record of 11-3 and nothing tangible to show for a season that had so much promise.
Last week it was our seniors losing on senior night to a Kentucky team we should have beaten. This week, Georgia Tech had no idea what was in store for them. A Georgia Bulldog team that learned lessons from the self inflicted wounds of a year ago, made a conscious decision to play football. It showed from beginning to end. A complete game. If they wanted to play the role of spoiler, they did a great job.
No matter what happens, the GT players will always say…”If only we had beaten Georgia”, the 2009 season would have been great.
Yeah…If only.

Did I really get ACC coach of the year? No wonder I am so smug!

Rex…always will be one of my favorite Dawgs!I’ve always wondered what happened on that XP in 77? Ha ha…just kidding …101 out of 102 PATS is not too shabby! The Techmites will be almost totally devoid of Div 1 players as Johnson continues to recruit for his “system”. Almost all of the kids it takes now to be sucessful at the higher level that Johnson aspires to have dreams of the next level. You think top quality OLs are going into a system where they don’t learn how to pass block? They can sure learn to chop block and have illegal motion on most plays though. Why it’s not called more often is perplexing. What about top notch Rbs that will never learn the intricacies of the short passing game that the NPL..no pads league..has eroded to?. A top flight qb…nope..just someone who can run and hopefully not get banged up. Receivers? Only if you can run a fly route against the WFs and UVAs of the world. Defense? Seriously..look at Johnson’s long track record..non-existant at best. The future is very bright for Annapolis South…just wait and see.
As for this year…obviously the Dawgs have not played well and we certainly have not been well coached at times…this is not rocket science just the obvious. However, unlike the North Ave.Trade School…the upside is potentially limitless with a few changes.
Going into the Tech game I really was sure of just 2 things…The Dawgs were not very good but Yech was worse. I TIVOed Yech games and they should have lost 4 more in the Always Chokes Conference. One dimensional and very predictable…over rated at best. One ankle sprain away from a meltdown. The VT win this year will be the high pt for Johnson at Tech. They are delusional from plastic pocket protector fumes.
Time to regroup and reassess in the Classic City…all good programs do. I’m sure that Coach Richt is more than capable. If the Dawgs were on the DJIA board…I’d jump in right now. Go Dawgs!

In the grander scheme of things, I wonder if this victory will be the catalyst for future success. It was certainly the blueprint for next year, assuming we start a redshirt freshman at QB. We are going to have to lean on the run early next year while the one non-starter from the entire offense gets his footing. The mix-and-match offensive line has finally (hopefully) been solidified into a very good, cohesive unit. Maybe with that, we’ll see a reduction in penalties as these guys continue to develop chemistry.
The offense has more pure talent and speed (especially when we involve B. Smith) in it’s history. We are going to light up some scoreboards next year. The defense is still the issue, but it *has to* improve, right?
Anyway, I want to sincerely thank Tech for all the extra motivation their 1 game winning streak over us has inspired. From their smug coach, to their hedge-stealing players, to their fanbase.

That is fun to type. It’s smooooooooooooooooth.

Its great….if only the TG Holiays could have lasted longer so that me and dear ole tech grad bro in law could have had more time to bond and more time to help him through the loss.

It is much like our year last year – a great year but no one seems to think much of the results, mainly because we lost to Tech. Let the Tech scum say what they will about having a “bigger” game to worry about now – the fact is, the UGA game MUST be pretty high on the ladder WHEN YOU HAVE RINGS MADE AFTER A VICTORY!!! Bruhahahahahaha! Who the heck does that!? And let me tell you what – I was SICK of hearing about that game for the entire year – payback is going to be a mother this year I hope the ACC CG draws enough people to pay the stadium vendors – how sad is it when the SEC CG features # 1 and # 2 in the nation and the ACC CG features teams that just got beat by a couple of 6-5 SEC teams having down years? Mommy, OUCH! GO DAWGS!!!

But Rex…right now all I hear them saying to me is if only you didn’t injure our QB….
Yeh, and if only he’d missed more than two series…and if only we’d had our Mr. Green…and if only you hadn’t piped in noise for the TV audience…
If only you didn’t suck so bad…
