Down 20 and Logan’s Run

Last week was a definite plateau week for me, but broke through this weekend. I have lost 20 lbs. in four weeks. I feel good about that but I’m not quite half way to my initial goal of losing 55 lbs.
I have seen a few of you and you have been gracious to comment on my efforts. I appreciate that. Now, on to more important issues, like Georgia football.
The most pressing issue of the day seems to be Logan Gray and the possibility of him transferring. Reader Tyler T. wants to know what’s up.

I don’t know any more than the regular fan, but I think I understand where he is. If Aaron Murray is indeed the guy, Logan could be relegated to a repeat of 2009. Now, I’m not sure if Logan could contribute at receiver as has been bandied about, but I do know this. There are no accolades being doled out for fair catch specialists. Almost every time he entered a game last year, every person in the zip code knew what was coming. It was not fair. He was never put in a position to succeed, which is part of a coach’s job.
If Logan is frustrated, last season had to be the genesis. Being passed on the depth chart by a red-shirt freshman surely adds fuel to that fire. The coaching staff had their opportunity to see Logan’s work. The implication was he is a great athlete. But even the best athlete can’t perform with handcuffs and shackles on.
Who could blame him for wanting to break free?

I noticed you dropped a few at Taste of Marietta… I gained 10 on that day alone… Did Coach Mac make it by your tent..?

I think our O line not giving the QBs enough time last year hurt Logan. At the end of the season they seemed to gel so hopefully both Qbs can get good protection and play well. Having a good running game will help too. I think it will be a great year to be a DAWG.
Congrats on the weight loss.

Murray will make things right in 2010.

Great job Rex! Down 20….next stop 25. As for Logan…..he has to do what he feels is best for himself. With Mason coming in this fall and the list of All American QB’s Georgia is recruiting next year….if he wants to play QB….well a transfer might be in order. Best of Luck to him in any case.

To be a confident quarterback, you have to have reps. Unfortunately, most people will only remember Gray for his pick-6 against Florida last year. The odds were already stacked against him leading up to this moment, and although not fair, it’s reality. I hope he decides to stay, but only if he wants to. The kid deserves better.

Way (weigh?) to go Rex! 20 lbs. lost is significant.
Last season I was kind of disappointed that the coaches couldn’t come up with more ways to use Gray. We’ve been told over and over again that he is a tremendous athlete, so why not find some way to use him other than fair catching punts? My guess is that, as Chris says, the coaches didn’t believe (for one reason or another) that he could do more.
It’s his future, he needs to do what is right for him. I don’t see him being the starting QB–so he probably does need to move on.

Great post Rex! We probably dropped 4 pounds getting in and out of the chairs on Sunday!! As a huge UGA fan I was really upset that we did not see Logan in a “wild cat” set last year once we got into the redzone. As a fan looking in from the outside I can only imagine the coaches did have enough confidence in LG to perform. The few times he did enter games he did not look like a confident QB, could be from a lack of reps or him needing more time in the saddle during games. Either way it might be better if he does transfer so that he can have another opportunity elswhere.
P.S. If Richt asks I still have a few years of eligibilty left!
