George Rogers is not Happy!

george1

I called George Rogers today for my annual bit of fun. For the record, I am not a true trash talker.  However, I do have a good enough relationship with George that I can poke a little fun and predict a Georgia victory.  I have talked before about how George and I met on the recruiting trail. I see him now about once a year and talk a couple of more times when possible.

I called him this morning and said Georgia was going to spank that behind tomorrow night…I can’t print George’s response, although he was laughing as he said it. The only thing that we did agree on is that it’s usually close.

Heck the two games we(UGA) won during my four years versus South Carolina were -15-13 in 1977 and 13-10 in 1980. Yep, two field goals in each game were the difference.

Your welcome…lol!

This Naked Pig is Smokin’!

naked-pig_small

Georgia Bulldog Fans! It’s true, I was there. Last Saturday while many of you were in Stillwater, I was in Acworth, Georgia gettin’ busy with some pulled pork and ribs.  I’m not ashamed, I’d do it again if I was invited again.. You should too.

Earlier this year the idea for The Naked Pig was conceived by one of my oldest friends, Anthony Swiatek. We’ve known each other for over 40 years, which pains me to say, but the alternative sucks even more, if you know what I mean.

Anthony invited me to his Super Bowl Party and I was able to sample his BBQ for the first time. Everything was great but his ribs hit me in the head! They were awesome! Later in the year we started talking about him doing a tail-gating biz where he does all the work for you…all you do is just show up and party!  Well one thing led to another and circumstances thrust Anthony together with another old high school friend, Terry Decker.

bell-anniversary-jpg-292-of-3032

Terry’s family has been in the restaurant business for over forty years. Together, these two Georgia Fans bring more than great food to the table.

But you may be asking yourself, ” why they would call their business “THE NAKED PIG”? Well if you knew these two guys you wouldn’t give it a second thought, but it actually does make sense. Their Q is so good, it does not need to be dressed(with sauce). It’s very true.  The Naked Pig is a full service event planning company available for Tailgate parties, Block parties, Reunions, Fundraisers, and Corporate Outings.

Contact terry@thenakedpig.com or call  (678)740-PIGS(7447)

I have a feeling we might even be in Athens sometime this fall. I will let you know. Just FYI, I am not receiving any remuneration for this post. Heck, I just want some more ribs down the road.

Terry, the Kicker and Anthony in happier times…about an hour before Okie State!

Georgia’s Biggest Rivals, Real or Imagined?

secfootball-11

The pundits are always talking about how competitive SEC football is and how much natural rivalries play into the weekly grind.  In looking at the new UGA Media Guide, I noticed some interesting tidbits. Some folks have handed it to the Dawgs, some series are competitve and some we dominate more than I realized.

Alabama has an eleven game lead in a series that until recently was very on again off again. In the olds days we rotated those teams that are now mostly SEC Western Division teams, except Auburn and Ole Miss who we played every year.

This is our record against our traditional rivals:

Alabama 25-36 -4

Auburn - 51- 53-8

Clemson-41-17-4(ACC)

Florida -47-38-2

Georgia Tech -59-37-5

Kentucky -49-11-2

LSU -12-14-1

Mississippi -30-12-1

Mississippi State -16-5-0

South Carolina - 45-14-2

Tennessee -16-20-2

Vanderbilt - 49-18-2

What jumped out at me and maybe you too is that as tough as the South Carolina series seems, it’s on par with our record against Vanderbilt.  That blew me away. It’s the same way with Clemson, Kentucky and for many years Florida also. Games like this week with South Carolina always seem close, but we do dominate the Gamecocks.

The Dawgs have some work to do this week to beat South Carolina, but they can do it.

Go Dawgs!

Bulldog Fans Find Muddy Water Hard to Swallow

du_georgia_logo

Stillwater was pretty clear. The Georgia Bulldogs have a lot of work to do. The Dawgs really did disappoint in their first game and I have waited to see if the water would clear up. After Saturday’s loss in Stillwater, all the questions supposedly answered during pre-season practice have been dredged back up again.  Is Joe Cox the man to lead us at quarterback? Who is our running back? Can we cover kick-offs?

I don’t know, do you?

What I do know is that if it’s still a question mark at this point, it’s falls back on the coaching staff.  Whatever your criticism of choice;  play calling, conditioning, or choosing to directionally kick-off, it all comes back to the staff and particularly Coach Richt.

I understand that Joe Cox was under the weather. To what extent, I don’t know.  If he was physically unable to perform, he should not have been put in that position. COACHING.  If he had recovered sufficiently to play near 100% of his abilities, then we have a problem. Joe is a fifth year senior and did not look it at all.  From decision-making to telegraphing his passes to his throwing motion, it was not good. COACHING. How can a young man be in our program  for four plus years and have such bad mechanics? It’s not about MS vs. JC, it’s about doing it the right way and if MS was stronger then so be it.

Richard Samuel looked good at times, but he runs hard and goes down easy.  He looked very much the same to me, minus the fumbles, which is good. Carlton Thomas had some flashes but got blown up and fumbled. He definitely needs more touches whenever possible.

The kickers looked pretty good. I think Blair Walsh did all that was asked of him. Drew Butler had a great punting average but needs more hang-time for sure. The other aspects of special teams were fairly poor. Too many return yards and  too many penalties really hurt us, obviously.

To be going into the SEC schedule with this many question marks is very scary, but most of these issues are fixable. COACHING.

Until further notice muddy water is all we have.

I SAID IT’S GREAT TO BE A GEORGIA BULLDOG!

georgialogo

Boy oh Boy, If you could see me now. Dancing around the house in my Uga VII underoos, it’s quite a sight to be sure. My great dane Brody went upstairs to avoid any further contact, while I’m in this state of football euphoria.  I don’t think it will subside though for quite awhile.

Maybe by around 6:30 or so…

It’s like I said a couple of days ago, this blog and the contact with you Dawg Fans has really made this a special season already.  I can’t imagine what it’s going to be like when the Dawgs win today and officially start this ride of 2009. It may have some ups and downs but but it’s going to be a great ride!

Go Dawgs!

Georgia Football…My Pre-Game Preparation, Then and Now

football_refereeThe “IveyLeaguer” has posed a question I should have answered already.  My old routine included mentally covering every conceivable scenario and how I would react. A concept I learned from NASA procedures, believe it or not. I liked the idea of knowing what you would do in the “heat of battle” well before the battle. NASA wrote it all down, I just visualized it all, over and over and over.

This created a sort of self- induced nervousness that meant many sleepless nights during game week. I roamed the “halls” of McWhorter Hall many, many nights. While my team mates had visions of Sugar Bowls dancing in their heads, I was a zombie. But what it translated into on Saturday was a feeling of complete confidence and no doubts.

On Game day, I had a definite ritual involving everything from what I ate and drank at the pregame meal, to watching a little LOONEY TUNES on TV…Yep, Bugs was always a favorite.  I also got dressed in a particular order…socks first then pants…then jersey. Nothing superstitious but like Coach Russell always said.”Why take chances?’

Prep these days is much simpler..plenty of football food..a variety of beverages…my new Sharp Aquos I got for last bowl season…and simply assuming the position at 12:00 noon and then game after game after game.

Go Dawgs!

Follow-up Friday

  • For the answer to the question, “What is your Pregame Ritual? The acquisition of an adequate supply of beer was not just the NUMBER 1 answer, it was the only answer. I  guess I forgot who my readers were!
  • It’s Game Day Eve and I am about to bust for real. I think writing this blog and interacting with the Dawg Nation has heightened the anticipation for the season for me. Sort of a like..well never mind.
  • The South Cracka-Lacky LameCocks and NC State WoefulPack were hard to watch…Don’t get over confident, though. Let’s stay focused next week so we can pound Spurrier into retirement!
  • I am sooo glad that Oregon and Boise State shook  hands before last nights game. Almost immediately after, they had to be separated due to trash talk and posturing near mid-field. I love it when I’m right!  Oh yeah, an Oregon RB sucker punched a Boise State player who looked to be trash talking after the game.. Wow.
  • I sincerely hope Richard Samuel is ready for a heavy work-load tomorrow. Caleb King’s hammy has been slow to heal and is not even going to Stillwater.  I bet he will be at the Parkview or Greater Atlanta Christian Game tonight.
  • Georgia’s defense is scary good when focused. Think Hawaii…I look forward to them being that defense tomorrow.
  • Prediction for the Georgia Tech-Jacksonville State game….224-0….Paul Johnson will try and set a new Tech record. The Cumberland score of 222-0 has stood long enough.
  • The Florida score? Who gives a….

Sportsmanship a Bad Idea

georgia_logo1The Georgia Bulldogs and Oklahoma State Cowboys meet this Saturday to play Big Boy football. This season opener has more hype than a Hannah Montana Concert, but with less testosterone.  OSU Head Coach Mike Gundy does not want to comply with a  pregame hand shake requested by the AFCA and Director Grant Teaff. Gundy is concerned that bringing these two teams together for a receiving line could precipitate a brawl. I am not sure why he thinks Georgia would start anything.

Maybe he’s concerned we would finish it…you know..we do FINISH THE DRILL!

It’s perfectly reasonable and customary to shake an opponents hand after doing battle. There is nothing wrong with a  grateful winner and gracious loser.  What the AFCA is proposing is taking two hyped up groups of finely tuned, aggressive athletes whose whole summer has been dominated by thoughts of kicking off this season with a bang, and then throw cold water on it.

This is the “G” of today, not the “U” of old.  Even so, keeping the players apart during this crucial time of pregame build-up has been the priority, not thrusting them together.

I’m not sure why this is happening now. It’s been a couple of years since any major fights have occurred. All I know is all of a sudden it feels less like a Georgia game and more like the Little League World Series. I don’t like it.

LATE BREAKING NEWS…OSU has decided to NOT participate in the ceremonial handshake.

Hey Georgia Fan, What is Your Pregame Ritual?

g_on_black_1600

Game week is the culmination of a long off season of questions, debates and studying to the point of paralysis by analysis. You may think you know, but you really have no idea.  I am starting to see that many Georgia Fans have little rituals to prepare for battle. I have seen not one but two women this week whose ritual includes a “Georgia” pedicure. One called them “PUPPY TOES”!

PUPPY TOES?

Okay, we’ll go with puppy toes. But I want to hear from you. What do you feel prepares you to support the Dawgs? The best answers will be listed in Friday’s Blog post.

ugacrazyfan

Allllrighty then! Gooo Dawgs!

The BCSAT, UGA’s Test Begins at OSU

georgia_logo12The new look Georgia Bulldogs have a long season ahead. Each week a new question in a long test. The BCSAT.  It’s difficult to know if Georgia can answer all the questions in the pundits minds. The questions change every year.  The opener in Stillwater this week could effect the final grade.  Answering the bell and building some confidence will go along way towards competing in the “EAST” and ultimately another 10 win season.

Anyone who professes to know what will happen on Saturday is delusional at best and a liar at worst.  How did we do on our BCSAT’s last year? I’m glad we get a re-do every year. There are way too many questions on both teams to know how we will do for sure . You know all the names, so I won’t rehash that.  At this point, it’s about the little things.

okie

Can Georgia stay healthy? Can we minimize penalties and other mistakes that plagued us last year? Until we establish ourselves, we cannot afford to shoot ourselves in the foot. The offense does not need to be spectacular, just consistent. The defense does not need to be oppressive, just fundamentally sound. Obviously, the special teams need to pull their weight for this to be a complete team, but I think they will.

The pieces are there. Some are very young talented pieces, but they do have leadership in key spots.  That’s something that may have held us back a year ago. Back in the day, we surprised some people when no one expected much from us.

Maybe we’ll ace the BCSAT’s this year!

Hillgrove QB commits to Tech

synjyn

Georgia Tech may have have found another piece of the puzzle this week. Synjyn Days of Hillgrove High School has chosen the Jackets over Oklahoma State believe it or not. Hillgrove is a customer of mine and I have seen Synjyn play for several years. He is a tough kid. In fact, many schools were recruiting him to play defense, probably an outside linebacker or strong safety type. But Georgia Tech wants him at quarterback. There is a good reason.

Hillgrove runs a version of the option, similar to Tech and that means Paul Johnson may have someone that can take his offense to another level. That’s bad.  What’s not bad, is Synjyn himself. He is a quiet unassuming kid that works hard and I can’t hate him for that.  There are too few kids like him.

Congratulations Synjyn, I hope you have a lot of success and may you never ever beat Georgia.

Richard Samuel, A Linebacker with a Ball?

richards

Has Richard Samuel truly arrived? You hear about this kind of thing all the time. Somebody somewhere is “steppin’ up”, ready to take it to “another level”.  Those are really worn out cliches, but there is a a lot of truth to the concept. Players have to work toward that goal of getting better physically, mentally and emotionally.  Last year some fans thought Richard was playing out of position and could be better utilized at linebacker.

Check out some of his highlights from high school.

Now it seems Richard Samuel has achieved next level status and has established himself as the number one running back at UGA. Richard came out of Cass HS as a very young but physically gifted young man, even approaching “freak” status. Since he was already strong, what has created this opportunity for him as a sophomore. I was discussing this with a Dawg Fan on Twitter(AA), you know who you are.

“AA” thought it was mental, which based on Richard’s physicality is logical. I am sure that this is a part of the puzzle, but I believe and hope it’s something a little different.  It will sound like a small thing, but it’s huge.  My major reason for doubting that Richard would ultimately be the man, was his running style.  Many of  the highlights showed a very strong physical guy that looked for contact more than avoid it.  A linebacker with a ball in his hands. But sometimes he looks like Eddie George and that ain’t too shabby.

You know, Richard has a new coach this year. Coach Bryan McClendon is credited by many as the reason our receiving corps had a stellar year in 2008. Now he moves to running backs. My hope is he can take this uncut diamond and make him something special.  You know there are runners and then there are running backs. Running hard is great, patience is better.  Running over people is cool, slipping a tackle and going for six is cooler.  It’s like being a thrower vs. a true pitcher in baseball.  Think Mark Wohlers vs. Greg Maddox.

Hey you need both, but I am hopeful Richard has grown in his understanding of his position and what constitutes a great running back.  Coach Mark Richt has commented that a lot of the success Richard has enjoyed in scrimmages was because of huge holes opened by the offensive line.  You know, those kind the announcers say, “Man, even I could have run through that hole!”

I played golf last weekend with someone in the know, someone that sees practice nearly every day.  When asked , he said yes, Richard Samuel does look just that good.

Only time will tell and the Okie Dokes are close at hand.

So Far, I’m Wrong and Loving It

richardsamuel

Georgia Bulldogs running back Richard Samuel has bolted into the lead as the heir apparent at Tailback U.  I for one am pleasantly surprised because of his struggles to fully adjust to the college game last year as 17 year old true freshman.  Sometimes it’s difficult to judge when it’s a boy in a man’s body. But boy oh boy, that’s no boy now.

Just a few weeks ago I had predicted a different outcome, but Caleb King pulled a hamstring and Richard and red-shirt freshman Carlton Thomas have both had two outstanding scrimmages.  I have no problem being wrong, in fact I’m ecstatic. As many have said, the prospect of a true thunder and lightning combination could be just what Georgia needs this year.

On top of that,  the Bulldogs offensive line has been heaped with praise and expectations this year. If they can fulfill that promise, these two running backs could find themselves thrust into national prominence as a top backfield combo. The icing on that tasty cake is that a even an above average running game should allow QB Joe Cox to go out with bang this year, with his many targets at wide receiver and now some young, talented tight ends.

I believe the continued emergence of Richard and Associates will be an answer to prayer and The Bulldog Nation is very, very thankful for that.

Those Vainglorious Beesturds

bees-tp-lg

I am so sorry, but I just could not resist. Is it not perfect? After winning the “State Championship” for the first time since 2000, you’d think that Tech had won an ACC Championship or a National Championship or something. The seniors of 2008 voted to put 45-42 on their Chic-fil-a Bowl ring? I can actually understand that.  The 1990 Tech team won a share of the MNC, something unique in Tech’s history. The 2008 squad did something just as unique. They beat Georgia.

I found a very informative article in  the Bleacher Report, published just two weeks after last year’s game.  The writer was very prophetic in his guess that Tech would act as if this somehow put them on par with THE University of Georgia.  That is a worthy goal to be sure, but a goal measured over years and years of success against the toughest of competition, the SEC.

Or maybe winning more than 12 games in 45 years against your in-state rival.

((((((((12-33))))))) – Hahahahahahahahaha!

Fabris and Martinez, and The Truth Shall Set You Back

georgia_logo11It’s been quite a week for Georgia assistant football coaches Jon Fabris amd Willie Martinez. Both have had their share of criticism in recent years and both had opportunities to share their thoughts in the media.  Their respective units have struggled at times to say the least and both have been discussed in the Bulldawg Blogosphere. My question is this. Did either coach make you feel better in any of their recent opportunities in the print or online media?

Let me know what you thought of Fabris’ description of his kick-off situation and the process for determining who will man that unit. Did Willie Martinez come across as makng excuses and even pointing fingers in the AJC?

fabris150

Personally I did not feel better after either. Now I truly believe both the defense and the kick-off unit will be better. From winter workouts on, I believe the entire team has a renewed focus and especially the defense.  Coach Mark Richt is freeing up freshman to compete for special teams spots. That could let some young guy shine and not ride the pine.

Even so, the two coaches did not come across very well, in my opinion. Maybe Coach Richt should consider a new policy for allowing assistants to be interviewed.

Esteban Ocho Cinco es Magnifico en Futbol, Si o No?

ocho-cinco-01-0905081

Will wonders never cease? I knew I felt an affinity towards the artist formerly known as Chad Johnson, but I never knew why. Now I do. Chad grew up a soccer player and still considers soccer his favorite sport. The Cincinnati Bengals needed help last night with kicker Shane Graham nursing a sore goin, Chad filled in admirably. His PAT turned out to be the difference in a 7-6 game against the Patriots. If you have not seen the highlights, you must. His PAT looked as good as any NFL kicker you will ever see. Pretty  amazing. His performance does not diminish the difficulty of kicking, it demonstrates his superior athletic abilities. Hehe.

David Buehler is a Freak

k-david-buehler1

On several occasions I have made reference to the best kick-off guy in the country last year. You know, the guy from USC that had 54% touch-backs. That would be David Buehler, now in camp as a 5th round draft choice of the Dallas Cowboys.  Well, he is a lot more than just a kicker. He is a physical specimen. At 6’2″ 225 lbs., he is a freak as far as kickers go.

I am linking articles calling him “The World’s Strongest Kicker” and “The World’s Fastest Kicker” and they are both incredible. In the first they describe how David did more bench reps(25) with 225 lbs. at the NFL combine than 27 offensive linemen at the combine. SAY WHAT?!? That’s correct, plus he ran a sub 4.6 40 yard dash. Now it comes out he  ”dusted’ one of the Cowboy’s DB’s in a race. Deangelo Smith, another 5th rounder for the Cowboys stepped up to the challenge and  now he wishes he hadn’t.

david_buehler071806200

Are you sufficiently amazed yet. Good. Now. THIS is the guy that kicked more touch-backs,  48 out of 88, than any kicker in the nation. That’s 54.54%……and Coach Richt wants 80%? Child please! That’s a little Ocho Cinco reference for your enjoyment. Here’s a little snippet that’s new to me as well. This came from USC’s website. David’s average kick-off went 67.9 yards.  That’s just outside the 2 yard line. Also, please notice that USC’s opponents only had 8 touchbacks.

David kicked 26-33 field goals in two years as the Trojans kicker also.  Last year he was 9-13.  Only 13 attempts. That’s less than one per game.  USC was busy scoring touchdowns, I guess. He attempted 66 PAT’s….66…..66….last year.

Do you think that between USC’s offense and their outstanding defense, that there was ANY pressure on David to kick his kick-offs deep…or to the left numbers…or with extreme height? No. I can hear Pete Carroll right now, saying David, ” We got your back. You do your thing! Kick-off team, you do your thing! Let’s do this!” Ready break!

Now how hard is that?

buehlerdash

That’s the freak doing a little dusting….hehe

What NOT to Wear…in Training Camp

miami_dolphins_logo-1

The year was 1982 and I was in training camp with the Miami Dolphins. I had started out in Denver that summer and was still struggling with consistency kicking off the ground.  I was very happy to be in Miami as I had been a fan of the Dolphins and Coach Don Shula for years. I will never forget meeting him for the first time, at practice after having been picked up from the waiver wire.

He called me over and said he was glad to have me in camp. He then asked how much I weighed…I said 197….he said don’t get over 200 lbs and pinched my stomach.  As crazy as it sounds that made me feel good that he actually knew me and my tendency to struggle with my weight.

Yes, that’s right I said TENDENCY…pfft!

But that’s not what this post is about. It’s about thinking about what you say and do and wear in every situation. You may have heard of the TV show, WHAT NOT TO WEAR. Well it sometimes is a matter of life and death.  One of my old team mates, punter Mark Malkiewicz gave me a tee shirt in 1981. His parents had moved to Poway, California to relocate their mattress business and factory.  You may or may not know that Poway is a suburb of San Diego.  Mark brought me a Chargers tee shirt on one of his trips back home. It was cool, but it was just another tee shirt to me.

Can you feel the stupidity building?

kuechenberg

So one day I went to lunch wearing said shirt. Bad, bad mistake. Have you ever heard of  Bob Kuechenberg? Bob was a  NFL Hall of Fame offensive lineman. He played at Notre Dame back when they were still Notre Dame. Let me just say, he was a bad man.  Bob approached me and “suggested” that I take that _____ shirt off.  I asked if I could wait til I got back to my room or did  I have to do it in the cafeteria. He let me go back to my room, the fact that I was still alive was a bonus.

Now, do you by chance remember the 1982 AFC Playoff  game when the Dolphins played the Chargers in one of the most historic games on record. It was a back and forth knockdown drag out war, that ultimately the Chargers won in overtime. Kellen Winslow became a legend that night. Think about if the tee shirt incident had happened after that game and not before. Holy Crap!

How I could do something  so stupid still baffles me.

For those of you that know me, don’t say a word.

On a positive note I did finish my time a Miami with a great game against the New York Football Giants.  I had field goals of 42 and 53 yards and a 31 yarder to win in overtime.

Batting .300 Sucks in This Game

img00235

In baseball, if you have a .300 batting average you gets paid mad money. If you do that as a blogger, you just gets people mad at you and you don’t even make any money. That sucks.  In my position as new kid on the block, I have managed to tick off almost every person conceivable. What’s so strange is that all the people that should  be mad at me aren’t even getting the message to be ticked off. That sucks too.

My lack of understanding of this blogosphere and the collective histories of all the players involved has contributed to my bumpy road. Also being a little too clever for my own good, like yesterday. Sarcasm is like a family friend.  Well we are estranged now, because he let me down. I’m not sure everyone got the fact that yesterdays blog was totally tongue in cheek.  The Athens Banner Herald did absolutely nothing wrong as far as I know. It was my attempt to communicate my feelings indirectly. I thought I had layed it on thick enough, but I’m not sure I did. If you did get it and enjoyed it I’m glad. If not, accept my apology.

That being said, I had tried writing a straight forward post to express my frustrations. I rewrote it at least half a dozen times and none of them seemed right.  This subject of kick-off philosophy is even getting old to me now. At least the coverage will probably be better because the pool of players will be larger. Coach Richt has said he will possibly include freshman on the special teams.  That’s great, but the kickers will probably not be allowed to do what they do in the best possible manner. That’s what sucks most of all.

This was yesterdays reading…

Coach Mark Richt Misquoted

markr1

I have been misquoted a few times in my life, nothing too serious or damaging, just frustrating. Coach Mark Richt does interviews almost every day of his life.  I am sure he occasionally has to deal with some corrections. I am sure he was quick to call a certain newspaper last week, because they obviously misrepresented him in a big way. That’s the only thing that makes sense.  In an article about Brandon Bogotay and the possibility his kicking abilities might bring about a change in the kick-off  philosophy Coach Richt allegedly said this about Brandon:

“He’s capable,” Richt said. “Just from the times that I’ve looked at it, they all have at times done exactly what we had hoped, but no one had a day where even 80 percent of them were out of the end zone or deep enough where they probably would not return it. There still has to be a level of accuracy or we’ll be in trouble.”

Man, if I was Coach Richt I would be ticked off.  There is no way Mark Richt said that.  He knows better than to think that kickers can kick a ball 75+ yards and to a spot. As I’ve written before, the best kick-off man in America last year was David Buehler from USC. He  ”only” kicked 54% of his kicks for touchbacks and number two was not even close. David is a 6’2″ 225 lb. true athlete that is in training camp with the Dallas Cowboys. But Coach Richt knows that. I am sure Coach Jon Fabris, who was also blatantly misquoted, has done the research and passed it along to Coach Richt.

Boy, I bet the roof of Butts-Mehre is still in orbit from when the coaches found out.  I would be mad too. It makes the coaches look like they don’t have an understanding of what rules have been changed and what is reasonable to expect from a kicker these days.  I don’t believe that for a second.  They are too good at what they do for this one area to be so deficient, so weak, so totally in the dark.

I have not seen a retraction yet, but it should be forthcoming.  It has to. It just has to.

UGA, Who Do We Think We Are?

georgia_logo1

I have not posted anything in 4 days. I’m still steamed about something reported out of Athens and as of this posting, still don’t have the “cajones” to say all that I want to say. Anyway,  I hope that title grabbed you, because it did me. I found it on ugasports.com, The Dawgvent.  A member named “davisinga” had it on his profile.  He may have posted it awhile back but I never saw it. I thought it was worth posting here, lest there be any doubt in anyone’s mind. DawgNation, Who DO we think we are? I have printed it as it was posted, without regard to typos and the like. I just like the sentiment.

Who do WE think WE are?
WE are THE University of Georgia! (U-G-A)

Who does UGA Think It is?
UGA is the Flagship University in The State of Georgia

This is the Money You Could be Saving with Geeko

The season is almost here. Practice has started and the build-up is making it hard for me  to hold my Stillwater, if you know what I mean. As always it’s interesting to compare and contrast where things stand with the Dawgs and Jackets.  One jacket fan continues to be a pain in the blog…leaving the very creative message (((45-42)))hahahahahaha. EVERY FREAKIN’ DAY. Now I know that there is alot of pent up frustration in the JackNation. Losing gets old, even to losers. But where is all this superior intellect I have always heard about.  What I’ve learned is that intellect does not include things like maturity and class.

Now, obviously no Georgia Bulldog fan would do anything so obnoxious……….anyhoo.

You know it’s true that folks that align themselves with the trade school can expect to spend less money than their hated rivals at UGA.  From season tickets to the fan swag they consider for purchase, it’s all about supply and demand.  Red and black has always been a very popular color combination even in the fashion world. It’s classic.  Georgia Tech has never experienced such a combination. Navy and/or black are okay as one component in the mix, but when your other choice is piss yellow,  and the only upgrade you can come up with is baby poop gold,  demand goes way, way down.

So if you want to be an engineer and save money at the same time,

call your Geeko representative.

Georgia Bulldogs Picture Day 1980

merobinsonBoy did I get a blast from the past today. I received this picture from a “young” man who had his picture taken with me on picture day 1980. Mark was nine then, that would make him 37 now.  I see pictures like this from time to time and I always wonder where those folks are now.

Mark S. is an software sales guy with his own blog too. We apparently had spoken on Dawgvent or something and recently he found this photo. It made me do some searching and I broke out the pictures my mother took on that same day.

I found a picture of a very young Bill Hartman and Lindsey Scott behind him. Also below you will see a picture of Hershel before we knew what was in store. No one knew what lay ahead. What a great year… Thanks Mark!
