Bulldog Fans Find Muddy Water Hard to Swallow

Stillwater was pretty clear. The Georgia Bulldogs have a lot of work to do. The Dawgs really did disappoint in their first game and I have waited to see if the water would clear up. After Saturday’s loss in Stillwater, all the questions supposedly answered during pre-season practice have been dredged back up again. Is Joe Cox the man to lead us at quarterback? Who is our running back? Can we cover kick-offs?
I don’t know, do you?
What I do know is that if it’s still a question mark at this point, it’s falls back on the coaching staff. Whatever your criticism of choice; play calling, conditioning, or choosing to directionally kick-off, it all comes back to the staff and particularly Coach Richt.
I understand that Joe Cox was under the weather. To what extent, I don’t know. If he was physically unable to perform, he should not have been put in that position. COACHING. If he had recovered sufficiently to play near 100% of his abilities, then we have a problem. Joe is a fifth year senior and did not look it at all. From decision-making to telegraphing his passes to his throwing motion, it was not good. COACHING. How can a young man be in our program for four plus years and have such bad mechanics? It’s not about MS vs. JC, it’s about doing it the right way and if MS was stronger then so be it.
Richard Samuel looked good at times, but he runs hard and goes down easy. He looked very much the same to me, minus the fumbles, which is good. Carlton Thomas had some flashes but got blown up and fumbled. He definitely needs more touches whenever possible.
The kickers looked pretty good. I think Blair Walsh did all that was asked of him. Drew Butler had a great punting average but needs more hang-time for sure. The other aspects of special teams were fairly poor. Too many return yards and too many penalties really hurt us, obviously.
To be going into the SEC schedule with this many question marks is very scary, but most of these issues are fixable. COACHING.
Until further notice muddy water is all we have.

What has Logan Gray done to get into Richt’s doghouse?. Coach Richt has all but said he only plays in the redzone. The kid was highly touted when recruited and has been in the program 2+ years. He is a much better running threat and has as good an arm as Cox. I seriously don’t get it.

I agree 100% Rex. In my book it is always COACHING. Especially when you see the same mistakes being made year in and year out. I have not felt good about the coaching on this team since BVG left.
As a 5th year senior, Richt and company have had 4 years to evaluate what Cox can do. Cox had more hang time on his passes than Butler did on his punts. He had absolutely no zip on the ball which gives the defenders even more time to break up his passes. He should have been picked for 6 twice in the first quarter. Outside of blind loyalty, how on earth do you start this guy???
I’ve been in Sanford Stadium when the booing starts and it ain’t pretty. I’m pretty sure Joe and Richt are in for it if things don’t go well Saturday.

Bobo’s play-calling went from exceptional to questionable in the same quarter and only got worse as the game went on. Why does he love the toss sweep so much? If we are so freaking good on the line, why not stay with the run and push it down their throats. We completely abandoned the run on a couple of early series’ and then couldn’t seem to work it back in. After the first drive we appeared to be running in quicksand.
Good news was the “D” played well and a good chunk of the rushing yards for them was when they were running the clock after the game was all but decided. The hit from Evans on Bryant was more egregious than Reshad’s hit, though neither were “cheap” or “dirty”. I think if Reshad wraps up on his hit and goes to the ground with the receiver rather than start his rooster dance afterward, that might not have gotten called. The hard hitting was a good sign.
I’m not ready to toss the baby out with the bath water, but if our offense doesn’t improve this week, I might have to get on the Logan Gray or even Aaron Murray bandwagon. Joe was lucky to not have a couple more picks Saturday. Slow motion throwing arm and staring down the receiver is not the way to go, especially not against better defenses.

Jones would have flagged regardless. Those were Big12 refs. They don’t allow tackling to the ground.
I hope I run into RJ in Athens soon so I can pat him on the back.

I’m being reminded of what was fed us about Joe T. He’s a 5th year man, he won’t make mistakes, he’s a leader. I sure hope that I’m wrong?
That offense looked pretty vanilla to me. Did anyone notice Joe C. check off at the line??
One more performance like that one and I’m for giving one of those top 10 QB prospects a chance to grow up.

i say we need to make a change at half time if thats all cox brings to the table i would rather have a inexperienced young athletic qb learn and maybe win a few games than one with almost no experience no athleticism and no arm!!

Looking at the forest, not the trees for the last 9 years: The biggest glaring difference in a CMR team and a CVD team is that CMR’s teams have a knack for a bringing a totally unprepared team on the field that looses to a team that it had no business loosing to. Rex you and I were at UGA at the same time. CVD lost his share of games too, but the big difference was his teams were prepared, and they won the games they were supposed to, plus a few more here and there. If they got beat, they got beat by a better team, pure and simple. They were hardly ever out prepared, out coached, or out hustled.
This one fact concerns me greatly. Damn, we had how many months to prepare for this??????
Concern #2: Why does the current coaching staff NOT learn from their mistakes? A 9-year learning curve? We are repeating the same mistakes year in and year out…not smart at all….
I truly believe the Bulldog Nation is now growing tired of this and will not be as willing as they were in years past to give CMR a pass on some of these issues.

Not to knock Vince, but come on………..
1975 9-3 Dogs lose to 6-5 Ole Miss
1976 10-2 SEC Champs lose to 6-5 Ole Miss
1977 Defending SEC Champs finish 5-6
1978 9-2-1 Dogs lose to a 5-5-1 South Carolina, tie a 6-4-1 Auburn team costing us an SEC Championship & Sugar Bowl berth, and proceed to lose the Bluebonnet Bowl to Stanford.
1979 A Wake Forest team that had a combined record of 2-20 in 1977-78 came to Athens and beat Georgia 22-21. A Virginia team that had a 5-37-1 record from ‘75-’78 beat the Dawgs 31-0.
All of those games took place after Dooley had been Head Coach at UGA longer than Richt has to this point. Barring 80-83 UGA had games like these throughout most of Dooley’s tenure. In his final season the Dawgs of ‘88 lost to a 5-6 Kentucky team costing Dooley a final SEC Championship.
Again, not meant as an attack aimed at Dooley, just want to illustrate that we lost bad games back then too.

i agree about the coaching , i am most disappointed with the offensive play calling. and i am real worried about joe cox if thats the best we got we are in trouble bad

We should not be in this critical moment, this should have been just reload and shoot. CMR has been here too long for our offense to be this inept.

As the driver of the “Fire Willie” bandwagon, I must admit that the defense was perhaps our bright spot of the game…. AND THAT IS SCARY! I have been reading about how Willie’s defense held the “High Octane” OSU offense to “only” 24 points, far below their 2008 average, and limiting(?) OSU to 172 rushing yards, and 135 passing yards, and for that to be considered a bright spot for a UGA team is, for this DAWG fan, unacceptable.
If the bright spot of the game is unacceptable, imagine how I feel about the rest of the game….

I think I have a pretty good idea…lol

As far as I’m concerned our Defense held OSU to 7 points. The remaining 17 points were scored after 2 turnovers deep in our own territory and a 70+ yard KO return. Defense held strong all day.

That’s pretty much how I see it. That LB and DE for the Chickens are really making me nervous.
