I think it will be necessary to hire an experienced head coach who can become a draw. That's what Buford had and Jess Simpson just carried on from there. Most of the growth has been in the county, not Marietta, so there are some challenges. There is a lot of multi-family housing that has been torn down and not replaced, which hurts. I believe it can be done though, with the right guy.

As a city school system poised in the middle of a heavily populated area, would it not be possible for Marietta to emulate what Buford has done in AA ball?

Rex,
Ben Wilkens would be very proud of the legacy that Coach Friday leaves behind at MHS. He is a class act, who "gets it." This man was more than a coach to his football players. He was a father figure and mentor, who taught his kids how to BE SOMEBODY! He will truly be missed along the sidelines of Northcutt Stadium.

Not so sure about the basketball choice or who made it. But it looks as though not much of a thought process for a Basketball Dynasty like MHS. MHS is rich in football tradition so I hope that whoever is in charge of making a coaching decision puts some thought into it and not the I GOT A FRIEND....process
